TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE - NOV. 20

WORLD CUP OF SHAME
« The LGBTQ community can go to Qatar, but don’t try to change us »
In preparation for the 2022 World Cup, Qatar asks gays to be discreet
For Abdullah Al Ansari, the event’s security manager, homosexuals must abide by the laws and customs of the country, it will be forbidden for any homosexual to hold up flag or hug a person of the same sex in public. In addition, a May 2022 survey conducted by a Norwegian Swedish and Danish media showed that some hotels licensed to host the World Cup have already stated that they will not host same-sex couples.
« If a fan flies a rainbow flag in a stadium and it’s taken away, it’s not because we want to offend him, but to protect them. If we don’t do it, another spectator might attack him, » said the security boss at the event. For Abdullah Al Ansari, this kind of action would be an « insult » to Qatari society. « If you want to express your point of view about the LGBT cause, do it in a society where it will be accepted. If you buy a ticket, it is to watch a soccer match, not to demonstrate. So don’t come and insult an entire society. We can’t change the laws or religion for the 28 days of the World Cup » he assumed.
BRUTALISM
[ TW : BLOOD ]
Corpses piled up, blackened bodies, some nibbled by mice, garbage bags filled with pieces of flesh. On the 5th floor of the Faculty of Medicine Paris-Descartes, part of the premises of the body donation center, which receives the remains that the deceased have wished to donate to science, has become a veritable mass grave. Created in 1953 by Prof. André Delmas, the body donation center has the particularity of offering « fresh bodies », that is to say, not formalized, not frozen, and kept for several weeks after death.
But another scandal is revealed: In violation of all the ethical rules related to the donation of the body to science, human limbs and organs are sold for money. Even today, cadavers are reserved for teachers but also for industrialists. Private companies, laboratories or others, pay to have access to the remains.
« Anatomical parts are mostly used by continuing education and acquired by private organizations »
reveals an audit conducted by the firm KPMG, quoted by the Express. The rates for a job on site, at the body donation center, range from 420€ to 900€. The price of a body is charged 900€. A system voted in 2011 by the board of directors of the university, and defended by Frédéric Dardel.
« Bodies are a marginal cost, it’s only fair that those who use them pay. And the prices are not outrageous. »

DO YOU WANT TO KYS ?
[ TW : BLOOD / SUICIDE ]
Santé publique France has reported on trends in emergency room admissions for suicidal gestures, by gender. These data are not complete for 2021: they stop at week 43 (end of October), but they are striking. Among girls under 15, emergency admissions for suicidal gestures have risen sharply, increasing by more than 40% over the first 43 weeks of 2021, compared with the average for the same period over the previous three years. The number of admissions for boys under 15 in the first 43 weeks of 2021, on the other hand, is perfectly stable compared with the last three years.
In this short extract from Alice Oseman ‘s book « Solitaire« , we hear Tori, the protagonist, talking about a conversation she had after a suicide attempt. The dialogue begins with a very powerful question : « Do you want to kill yourself? » An intense question, linked to a very calm dialogue. This project is therefore preventive in nature, to raise awareness on such a complicated and serious subject.
